3rd July, 2015: Done/Undone Exhibition Private View
A great success at the launch of Liz’s exhibition last night. Lots of people through the door and plenty of amazing feedback. Liz is feeling overwhelmed, especially as she has sold 5 pieces!
Here are some images from the launch:
1st July, 2015: Done/Undone Exhibition
Birdhouse’s Liz is staging her first solo exhibition, Done/Undone. It is on at Unit 13 Marine Point, New Brighton (between Subway and Starbucks) from 2nd to 11th July. The exhibition is a demonstraion of Liz’s fine art photography, which includes various sets that have been hand embroidered. Some of the work on show has been featured in international magazines and other group exhibitions.
Liz will be at a private view on the 2nd and all works are available to purchase. If you would like to come and have a look, it will be open this weekend (4-5th) and at various time during the week. To check if it is open at a particular point, send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org and Liz can arrange to meet you there (to have a look – purchases are optional!)
12th May, 2015: Model Portfolio Update – Gosia
Whilst enjoying the grand ol’ Emerald Isle, Birdhouse met up with Gosia to update her model portfolio. We mind mapped some ideas and picked out a location to start with – a red-brick abandoned building along the Liffey, near the IFSC area of Dublin. When we arrived, we discovered that the building was actually undergoing some renovations, so shots were limited to a baton clad doorway before we were (politely) moved along by a security guard. Wolf whistles from passing traffic was also a little distracting!
Gosia had the idea of using the underground car park that was a part of her apartment complex – this turned out to be a hidden gem! Grungy walls, ceiling grids that let in some unusual light, and various puddles that worked well as a reflector. Gosia had styled herself in some hard leather, including gloves, and this worked especially well with this location.
We had decided to also do some vintage inspired looks, so moved on to the trendy/tourist packed hotspot of Temple Bar. Lots of cobbled streets and quirky shops were the perfect backdrop for this shoot – we were also approached by a gentleman from a local bar offering his colleague up as a male model! A quick change and a new location gave some contrast to these looks, making the most of the diversity that can be found in wonderful Dublin.
9th May, 2015: Amelia’s First Communion
Birdhouse is now international! Invited to photograph Amelia’s first holy communion in Kilmessan, Co. Meath, Ireland, the day was spent documenting this special moment in Catholic family life.
Amelia had an amazing day and actually enjoyed wearing a “girly” dress – this is far removed from her favourite trackies and tees! The whole family turned out in support and enjoyed a meal together at a nearby hotel, before heading back to Amelia’s home, where the entire neighbourhood turned up to continue this milestone celebration.
5th May, 2015: Sophie’s Headshots
Another dance talent was in the Birdhouse for some updated headshots. Sophie has been a character dancer in Disneyland Paris for the past 2 years and is now on the hunt for some a new role in the UK.
11th April, 2015: New Model Face Christiana
Today, new model face Christiana was in the Birdhouse for some portfolio images and test shots. Christiana is a very talented textile and pattern designer, graduating from Leeds University last summer and now taking some time to figure out her next move. In the meantime, Christiana is keen to experience lots of different activities, and has taken up ice-skating lessons, alongside deciding to give modelling a go.
Small but perfectly formed, Christiana has a quirky look that the camera loves! Future collaborations could be possible to give more variety to her experiences and the resulting images.
27th March, 2015: Emily’s Headshots
Talented dancer, Emily, was in the Birdhouse today for some headshots. Emily, now 18, has been dancing competitively since she was 3, winning countless medals and trophies, some of which have now been donated to a local school. After finishing her studies, Emily hopes to work at Disneyland Paris as a character actor and dancer. She has an audition coming up, so wanted some fresh and professional images to update her CV. With a winning smile and a charming personality, Birdhouse is certain that she will excel in her auditions!
26th March, 2015: Forum Housing CEO retirement party
Following on from yesterday’s event, Birdhouse was asked to also document a party being held in Chris Allen’s honour. As well as some touching speeches and lovely nibbles, Chris and her guests were entertained by a groups of singers and dancers, made up of staff from Forum Housing. This was a very secret affair, so came as a great surprise for Chris, who was commissioned as President of Forum Housing in her retirement. A great evening all round!
25th March, 2015: Forum Housing CEO retirement service
Today, Birdhouse conducted some Reportage Event Photography for Forum Housing Association. They are a registered charity that support young people into independence through housing and training services. Christine Allen BEM is retiring from her position as Chief Executive Officer and will be replaced by Ian Cardwell. There was a service at Christ the King Church in Birkenhead, lead by Bishop of Birkenhead, Right Reverend Keith Sinclair, and attended by the Mayor of Wirral, Councillor Steve Foulkes.

27th February, 2015: Lauren’s 21st
The Birdhouse Party Photo Booth attended a 21st birthday party tonight. Lauren had chosen an 80s theme so there were plenty of brilliant outfits to be seen, most notable were Annie Lennox, Lauren’s dad, Anthony, as Slash from Guns ‘N’ Roses, and Adam Ant.
Lauren was also surprised with a marriage proposal from her partner and Birdhouse was lucky to capture some lovely moments between them just after the big question!
Here are a selection of images from the night:
24th January, 2015: Orla’s Portraits
The lovely Orla had the Birdhouse portrait experience today. We started with some relaxed shots, throwing in some jokes for a natural laugh, and then moved on to some more serious poses to give a variety of results. Orla and her family are very pleased with the finished images and have had their favourite image printed and framed.
Here are a selection of the images:
22nd January, 2015: Anna Baxter Showcase
Make-up and hair stylist Anna Baxter wanted to update her online portfolio so came to Birdhouse for some creative beauty images. Teaming up with the beautiful model, Nina Pang, we tried out 4 looks and styles to give both Anna and Nina a variety of images for their portfolios. It was a full day but we managed to break for a blueberry muffin and some sandwiches, fuelling Nina and her fabulous poses.

6th January, 2015: New Year Offer
Well hello there, 2015. And goodbye to 2014 – what a fab year it was! Birdhouse Photography was conceived and enjoyed a great start to capturing some brilliant people and places. Long may it continue into this new year, speaking of which, there is a new offer on the Birdhouse Party Photo Booth. If you’re not sure what this involves, please see here for information and examples of what can be expected.
6th December: Bromborough Christmas Fair
Today, the Birdhouse photo booth attended the Christmas Fair at Bromborough to offer Christmas portraits to savvy shoppers. Set up amongst the Christmas trees in St. Barnabas chuch, children and adults posed themselves with some festive props and made some delightful images to go on Christmas cards! As with all Birdhouse photo booth hires, props were not essential, but they give the pictures an extra sense of fun!
Here are a few of the trees being displayed:
5th December, 2014: Priory School Portraits
Ho! Ho! Ho! proved to be a popular Christmas tag for some cheeky monkeys from the Priory School in Birkenhead. Birdhouse took the party photo booth to their Christmas fair to capture some cool festive portraits for parents to share with family and friends afar. Girls were winners of being able to hold more than one prop at a time, and with such style too!
4th December, 2014: Bromborough Christmas Fair
This afternoon has been spent setting up a tree and table for the Christmas Tree Festival at St. Barnabas Church, Bromborough, as a part of the Bromborough Christmas Fair this weekend. Local businesses are invited to sponsor a pitch, which they can then decorate as they please, using a tree as the focal point.
Birdhouse was happy to do this, having been given work by the church, and set about planning how to decorate it. A little bit of DIY produced some Polaroid style pictures for hanging, which were joined by a couple of feathered friends, and some business cards on mini-pegs. The table also leant to having some larger images on display in frames, and a couple of examples of commemorative books designed by Birdhouse.
Very pleased with the finished look!
17th November, 2014: St. Barnabas 150th Anniversary
A bit of reportage today as Birdhouse was invited to capture events surrounding the 150th anniversary of St. Barnabas Church, Bromborough. Led by Rev. Jenny Gillies, there was a ceremony to plant a tree in the garden of remembrance, alongside the burial of a time capsule. Both were assisted by children of Raeburn school and Councillor Phil Gilchrist, as well as 93 year old Geoff Rhodes, who has attended the church for nearly 90 years!
Later on in the evening, there was a celebratory service, with the Mayor of Wirral (Steve Foulkes) in attendance, along with past clergy of the church, the Vice Dean of Chester Cathedral (Peter Howell-Jones) and Bishop of Chester (Rt Revd Dr Peter Forster). Other diocesan guests spoke at the service to give blessings to the building and a new plaque was unveiled by the Bishop.
15th November, 2014: The Oak Community Project
Today Birdhouse was at The Oak Community Project Autumn Fair, at Christ the King Church, Birkenhead. The party photo booth was set up with portraits offered for just £5, with 20% of proceeds going to the project. There were a few little faces wanting to flash their gnashers, and some adults that were a little more camera shy… the kids definitely knew how to strike a fabulous pose!
31st October, 2014: Liam’s Headshots
Acting talent Liam Murphy received the Birdhouse treatment today, needing some up to date headshots. What a pleasure it was to photograph his lovely face! It’s always a little challenging to get people sitting for portraits to relax but find that having a nice chatter gets the ball rolling. Some candid shots towards the end of the session show true character, although these are more for fun that a professional CV.
